Gone are the days when we thought fats were just added calories. Without healthy fats, we would not have a healthy hormone balance, cells or electrical conductivity but reduced vitality. The body produces fatty acids from both omega-3 and omega-6, which are the precursors to (sex) hormones. We present you with an overview of a few types of omega oils.
Omega-3 and omega-6 regulate all the vital processes in our bodies. There is no way to live without these fatty acids. If our food is lacking in omega-3/6, we can expect problems with our health. – Udo Erasmus (nutrition specialist in fats, oils and essential fatty acids)
Healthy fats for a healthy fatty acid balance
What matters is a good fatty acid balance. When there is no such balance, the cells become less flexible, making it harder for nutrients to enter the cells and for toxins to leave the cells. There are 2 essential fatty acids that our body needs and cannot produce on its own: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, the master fatty acid of the omega-3 family) and linoleic acid (LA, the master fatty acid of the omega-6 family). We get these fatty acids or omegas from a healthy diet or supplements. When our bodies have enough ALA and LA, they can make the other omegas themselves.
Most healthy people can make all the natural omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids they need from alpha-linolenic acid and linoleic acid. – Udo Erasmus
Perilla oil: queen of omega-3 oils
Perilla oil is the vegetable oil with the most omega-3 fatty acids. It is pressed from the seeds of the Perilla Fructescens plant and has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic, Japanese and Asian medicine. Perilla oil contains slightly more alpha-linolenic acid than linseed/flaxseed oil and has a milder taste. Perilla oil is also particularly rich in health-supporting phenols, such as luteolin, quercetin, catechin and apigenin.
Omega 3-6-9 and omega-7 – Okinawa Omega from Amanprana
Okinawa Omegas are the only omega blends with 8 types of vitamin E (7 by red palm oil and 1 by wheat germ oil) and a broad spectrum of carotenes, thanks to the red palm oil. The red palm oil and wheat germ oil in each Okinawa Omega oil provide the vitamins necessary to allow the absorption of the omegas and counteract the oxidation of the oil, in a natural way, which is especially important in our bodies. The four Okinawa Omega oils from Amanprana include: Happy Delight omega oil, Balance Delight hemp oil, Happy Perilla Special, Eicosan Perilla oil. Use the omega oils in smoothies, juices, yoghurt, salads, dressings or ingest it pure.
