For their chocolate bar the ‘Nacional Acriollado G.S.F. (Galera San Francisco)’, Aruntam went to the North coast of Ecuador. In the Galera San Francisco region, the indigenous Ecuadorian cocoa trees are thriving. The cocoa that comes from this region is a combination of the Cacao Nacional and the white cocoa bean. The latter is also called ‘porcelana’ or ‘criollo’ and hence the name of this chocolate bar: Nacional Acriollado.

Esmeraldas used to be the refuge for African slaves who fled from the Spanish settlers. The untouched forests of Esmeraldas reminded them of their homeland. They could ground themselves there.
Today, Esmeraldas counts the largest number Afro-Ecuadorian inhabitants.
The photo on the packaging of this chocolate bar is a tribute to these inhabitants. The radiant eyes of the Afro-Ecuadorian women reflect the hospitality and generosity of the country.
