The entire process of transforming the cocoa bean into the cocoa used to make this chocolate bar takes place inside the cocoa plantation “El Pechichal” in Guayas, Ecuador. This plantation already existed during the great ‘cocoa boom’ which took place from 1872 to 1920, also known as “los gran cacao”. Today, the plantation still actively engages in preserving the quality of the Cacao Nacional.

The cocoa plantation “El Pechichal” was founded and managed by a family from the city Cuenca, before the plantation was taken over by its current owners.
As tribute to this family and the city they were from, a typical woman from Cuence (a “Chola Cuencana”) is show on the packaging. She sells her traditional, hand-crafted baskets. The authenticity of this woman symbolises the love with which cocoa farmers protect their cocoa.
