You are going on holiday or just for a day out. What will you take with you? Don't laugh at the large handbag or beach bag of some mothers. It undoubtedly contains a wealth of practical products! We took a look in our handbag and would like to share 5 skin care tips for the road.

1 - Sunscreen

At the moment, more and more people are wondering whether sun block is really necessary. Whether it is nothing more than a marketing product. No! Our ozone layer is not a holy dome that blocks harmful UVA or UVB rays. We live longer than we did, say, a hundred years ago, which means that our skin is exposed to UV rays for longer. If you want to enjoy healthy skin in your old age, now is the time to protect yourself with a good sunscreen.

The thing is, there are some sunscreens and there are others. Choose a product with natural ingredients that are kind to your skin and to the environment (reef safe sunscreen). In concrete terms, this means a sunscreen with mineral filters such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.

Mineral filters coat your skin, reflecting UV rays. It protects instantly. So you don't have to keep your wobbly child out of the sun for 20 minutes after applying it, as you would with a sun cream with chemical filters. A disadvantage may be the white haze that remains when you apply a cream with mineral filters. Nowadays, this happens less and less because manufacturers also learn and keep improving the composition of their products.

Which SPF?

For sensitive children's skin, it is best to start with a sun cream with a protection factor of SPF 50. This is also interesting if you have not seen much sun. The difference in protection factor is not that big in percentage terms. The main thing is to apply sunscreen regularly. So you can also use an SPF 30. These creams also tend to spread more easily. Therefore, they are more pleasant on your face.

Of course, you can also buy a separate sun block for the face. A day cream with SPF does not protect sufficiently in the full sun. Also handy in your beach bag is a stick or sun block with SPF50. This will quickly put a few stripes of sun block on your child's body. Spread out while playing. Athletes also like this stick because it is compact and easy to take with them.

2 - After Sun Lotion

It's handy to have an after sun lotion in your bag. For yourself, but of course you don't want to have nagging children with a stinging skin if you want to enjoy a nice dinner at a restaurant. An after sun milk cools and soothes sunburned skin.

3 - Aloe Vera Gel

What can also help is aloe vera gel. This is in our (beach) bag anyway, as it helps with many things. Today, it is mostly used for sunburn, dry spots or skin irritations. But you can also apply it to scrapes, cuts, acne and insect bites!

4 - Roller against insect bites

This brings us to the next challenge on a summer holiday. When the sun goes down and everyone is sitting on a terrace enjoying the warmth, the mosquitoes come. At home, you may have your garden full of citronella candles. For the road, our super bag contains a roller by LaDrôme Laboratoire with essential oils from citronella and lemongrass, among others. Quickly roll it a few times over your bare arms, legs and décolleté and the mosquitoes will prefer to buzz away at another table.

Still stung? Then we bring out the soothing LaDrôme roller with essential oils from lavender and rose geranium, among others. We have also used it for itching from nettles and light burns and for other small pains that children bring to mummy. A top seller!

5 - Soap with or without water

Just rub some mousse into your hands and that's it! You can also use this mousse to freshen up sweaty feet or to clean superficial abrasions.

An alternative is Dr. Bronner's natural concentrated soap. It comes in a cute little 60ml format. It fits easily into a handbag. The soap consists of natural oils, without chemical additives and is 100% biodegradable. You can therefore use it in the open air. A few drops are enough to wash your hands or even to do the dishes at the campsite.
