What's the story of Gusto Organic drinks?

The first Gusto drink was created rather by coincidence in 1987. For a big party celebrating 20 years of Whole Earth Foods - the great English natural food brand - inventor Craig Sams wanted to bring a new energy drink for his guests who did not drink alcohol. The stimulating drink with cola flavor, guarana and ginseng circulated successfully among family and friends for a few years. At the end of the 80's his children see potential in the drink. It is the time of the rave parties and the Gusto drink is almost the only legal way to help them party through the night without an energy dip afterwards.

Then Craig Sams launches the drink as Gusto Original Energy. It is one of the first natural energy drinks on the world market and the only one that replaces the usual synthetic ingredients such as taurine with premium, organic, Fairtrade ingredients. Craig Sams, initiator of London's healthy food scene and co-founder of Gusto

Craig Sams is a real pioneer in healthy nutrition. He is not only the co-founder of Gusto Organic Drinks, but also co-founder of Whole Earth (the English natural food brand) and, together with his wife, Green & Blacks (organic chocolate). He helped kickstart the first vegetarian food market in England and launched the UK's first macrobiotic restaurant in London in the late 1960s. He served brown rice and steamed vegetables to Marc Bolan, John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Eventually he also advised the large supermarkets in the United Kingdom on how to go organic.

He became interested in healthy, whole food after suffering from severe dysentery and hepatitis during a trip to India in 1965. Craig Sams cured himself with macrobiotic food. It was the free sixties and macrobiotic cooking was on the rise, but Craig Sams managed to tackle it with his restaurant in such a way that it became totally hip and trendy.

With Gusto Organic Drinks,this hip entrepreneur goes beyond his experience. Gusto originated very naturally with his Gusto original energy drink. William Fugard then developed the entire Gusto range of ethical natural soft drinks. First with a few variants with a cola flavour. Then came surprising lemonades.
