How do you best remove eye makeup? Which foundation is the best for your skintype? How can you give yourself a radiant look? Read on and discover ZAO's makeup and beauty advice.

1. Choosing a Foundation

A foundation settles your makeup. Always choose a foundation that is one tint lighter than your own skin colour. This is equal to the lightest skin on your face.

  1. 2. Applying Foundation

Always start at your hair line, then down to your nose and then across the rest of your face. Don’t forget about your neck!

    3. Use Concealer

Always apply concealer, by dabbing, not rubbing, before you apply foundation, bronzer or blush. Green concealer softens rosacea or blushing cheeks, light concealer hides baggy eyes, and light rose concealer covers dark circles.

4. Mascara and Hooded Eyelids

For those with hooded eyelids it is recommended to avoid applying mascara to the bottom lashes, because this ‘pulls’ the eyelids downwards. You want your eyes to look more open and fresher. You can make the eyes appear less hooded by drawing a small ‘half-moon’ on the outer edge of the upper lash line (from the middle of the eyelid to a little further than the edge).

5. Shaping the Eyebrows

Comb the eyebrows in the shape you want them, following their natural shape. An eyebrow pencil colours your skin and the eyebrows, whereas eyebrow powder only colours the skin. Apply the eyebrow powder along the bottom line of the eyebrows in small, loose stripes, in the direction of the natural hair growth (first vertically, then horizontally).

6. Bronzer for Oval Shaped Faces

Having an oval face is the beauty ideal. Those with a square, round, or long face, or those with little to no apparent chin, can make their face appear more oval by using bronzer. Apply the bronzer to make certain parts of the face a little darker. These parts will appear smaller. Try it on a wide forehead or dominant cheek bones, for example.

7. Removing Eye Makeup

Press a cotton pad with makeup remover lightly onto the eyelashes of the closed eye. Hold it there, let the remover absorb the mascara, and then rub downwards. The makeup left will be on the bottom of the eye. Then, you can softly move the residual makeup to the side of the eye and rub it off.

8. Taking Care of the Eyes

Because the skin around the eyes is so thin and sensitive it is recommended to apply a nourishing eye-cream in the evening. An eye-cream repairs damage done by the sun throughout the day. This damage is not immediately visible, but can start to show after several years.
