8 March is International Women's Day. Women's movements worldwide demand attention for more equality, autonomy and no violence against women. For us, International Women's Day is especially a time to reflect on ourselves. How are you doing? Do you take enough time for yourself? Do you take good care of yourself? Discover our tips for more self-care below. And that's from the inside as well as the outside and for every day!

Self-care increasingly important

Self-care is a word we use more and more often besides me-time and love for yourself. It is actually a term from nursing that refers to the extent to which a patient can take care of himself. What we mean by it is that you should take good care of yourself. If you no longer function or feel good about yourself, you can no longer take good care of others (your family, your children).

Self-care used to focus mainly on physical health. Today, mental health is increasingly in the spotlight. There is a lot you can do yourself to feel good about yourself (again). For one person, this might mean catching up with friends, while for another, it might mean having a quiet moment on their own. One likes a relaxing sauna, the other a brisk walk or run.

Taking care of yourself makes you feel good

You know those hairdressers who go out into the streets to cut the hair of the homeless? It is unbelievable how radiant these people look afterwards. For a moment someone pays attention to them. When you look good and well-groomed in the mirror, you automatically feel better about yourself.

Those few drops of oil that you massage into your face in the morning or evening will hydrate and care for your skin. You'll soon notice the difference and it's just a small gesture for a radiant result.

Use a hair mask or a face mask, too. There are now even masks for your hands or feet! Put on some nice music while you let the mask soak in and enjoy beautiful, shiny hair or fresh, glowing skin afterwards.

Or try a natural way of shaving with shaving oil. It is soothing and nurturing at the same time! It's a nice change from the quick shave you get in the shower and it's much gentler on your skin.

Don't dry yourself immediately after a shower or bath, but lubricate your moist skin with natural body oil. Your skin will immediately become noticeably softer. Give some extra attention to those spots you easily forget: your knees, your elbows, your thighs and buttocks and your cleavage!

These are a few small things you can plan in each week to give yourself that extra bit of attention and tell yourself that you are important and allowed to be there!

Self-care from within with food supplements

A large part of ourselves we do not see. That is on the inside of our body! The body is a complicated but magical thing of organs, nerves, blood cells and so on. Self-care can also mean investing in a nutritional supplement to support that wonderful body.

girl with glass of water and pills in hand'Feeling good is between your ears,' people sometimes say. You can take this quite literally. In our brains, different substances are active (serotonin, dopamine) that influence how we feel. These are produced through social contact, exercise and positive thinking, among other things. But the brain is also an organ that needs fuel and healthy food to function properly.

Take a look at what you eat. Try adding more fruit and vegetables to your meals or vary them more.

Sometimes food supplements with extra vitamins and minerals offer a welcome addition to what you eat. A number of vitamins and minerals are frequently in the spotlight because we usually have too little of them or produce too little. Think of vitamin D, vitamin B12, magnesium or zinc. Talk to your doctor about what you may need.

Then get into a routine of taking your supplements consistently and daily.

Put them in a place where you pass them every morning, e.g. in the bathroom by your toothbrush or on the kitchen counter by your coffee machine or blender (smoothies!). You can also distribute your supplements in a pill box that is easy to carry in your handbag.
