Velvet Horn Seaweed (Codium tomentosum) is a firm green algae with tubular and spongy branches, with a felt-like layer. Velvet Horn seaweed from La Patrona is cut all year round in Rías Baixas, a coastal region in southern Galicia. Codium stands out for its magnesium, iron and protein content. Due to natural drying at a low temperature (below 40°C), sea lettuce retains its structure, color and high nutritional value.
Velvet Horn Seaweed has a full and intense marine taste and can be combined excellently with copper-rich foods such as crustaceans, molluscs or nuts and with zinc-rich products such as chickpeas, lentils, soybeans or meat products. In addition, this seaweed is also ideal for making sauces, oils and... ice cream preparations.
The various seaweeds are harvested by hand in the Galician estuaries, washed, dehydrated and packed by La Patrona in biodegradable packaging, free of plastic. Harvesting is done on foot or by diving at a shallow depth and using a boat. The algae are cut off, leaving the rhizoid (root) so they can continue to grow. This seaweed is fully certified organic.
