Siberian Pine nuts Oil from TAIGA Naturkost: the Gold of the Taiga

Siberian pine nut oil has been produced from pine nuts (also called cedar nuts) since ancient times and is also called the Gold of the Taiga. It is light amber in colour and has a pleasant nutty flavour. The oil is obtained by cold pressing, so that the vital substances of the cedar nuts are preserved. This precious oil should not be heated, so use it only for cold or slightly hot dishes.

High content of Vitamin E

Cedar nut oil is one of the few oils with a high vitamin E content (approx. 30 mg per 100 g). Vitamin E helps protect cells from oxidative stress. In Russia, many cosmetics contain cedar nut oil because of its beneficial properties for maintaining healthy skin. The oil can be ingested 'pure' or mixed with lettuce, muesli or smoothies. It contains more than 26% monounsaturated fatty acids and more than 65% polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Pine nut oil or cedar oil?

There is also talk of (Siberian) cedar oil. The Russian name kedr is often incorrectly translated into English as Siberian cedar. In reality it concerns the Pinus Sibirica, a sister of the Pinus cembra or Swiss pine. So the cedr is a Pinus. Pinus and Cedrus are both members of the Pineacea, or family of pines. For these reasons we prefer to speak of Siberian pine rather than cedar and Siberian pine kernel oil instead of (Siberian) cedar oil.
